Robert P. George, McCormick Professor of Jurisprudence and director of the James Madison Program, Princeton University recently visited IESE (University of Navarra) as a keynote speaker of the 46th Global Alumni Reunion.
In this interview, George talks about the pillars of dynamism, and whether society can be both dynamic and decent.
He goes on to say that there are two pillars of dynamism to consider. The first pillar being a system of higher education, going beyond basic skills, which forces frontiers of knowledge to be pushed back.
The second pillar of a dynamic society can be elevated through the business firm. This economic dynamism enables social mobility, so that people have the opportunity, through hard work and initiative, to rise and become more productive.
Professor George was the 2007 John Dewey Lecturer in Philosophy of Law at Harvard University. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and serves on the boards of directors of numerous institutions. A graduate of Swarthmore College and Harvard Law School, Professor George earned a doctorate in philosophy of law from Oxford University. He holds honorary doctorates of law, letters, ethics, civil law, humane letters, and science and is the author of many books in his specialist area.
