Responsible Business: Countdown Begins for Doing Good and Doing Well

February 18, 2010

Europe's leading student-run conference on responsible business, "Doing Good and Doing Well (DGDW)" is set to take place next week, Feb. 26-27, on IESE Business School's Barcelona campus.

A record number of participants are expected at this year's conference, which last year attracted some 650 people, including MBA students, business leaders and academics. Organized by IESE's Responsible Business Club and Net Impact, DGDW is now in its 7th edition.

More than 100 speakers will take the podium during the event, including keynote presentations by Zein Abdalla, CEO of PepsiCo; Michel Camdessus, former managing director of the International Monetary Fund; Vicky Colbert, founder and director of Escuela Nueva, a pioneering rural educational initiative; and Rod Schwartz, founder of ClearlySo, an online marketplace for social businesses.

Some 10 venture capital firms will take part in the cleantech seminar and panel sessions.

During the conference, presenters will share their perspectives on the impact and future of responsible business practices in diverse sectors. The theme this year is "From Niche to Mass Market: Taking Responsible Business to the Next Level."

In line with the focus of DGDW, organizers have announced they will offset the carbon footprint of this year's conference.  All carbon emissions involved with transportation of keynote speakers, energy consumption during the conference and general consumption such as food and printed paper will be offset. Organizers also urged participants to offset emissions created by their travel to the conference through the DGDW partner Offset Options.

DGDW also features a Career Forum, which gives those interested in developing a career in responsible business a chance to meet companies involved in the field.

The DGDW conference has grown steadily since its first edition in 2004. Past speakers have included Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Founder and Managing Director of Grameen Bank in Bangladesh and Anil Soni, CEO of the Clinton Foundation's HIV/AIDS Initiative.
