IESE Prof. Pankaj Ghemawat Wins 2011 The Thinkers50 Book Award

World 3.0 recognized for originality and impact
November 15, 2011

A groundbreaking book by IESE Prof. Pankaj Ghemawat has garnered The Thinkers50 book award for 2011. The global ranking of management thinkers, which is published every two years, recognizes business luminaries from around the world.

Prof. Ghemawat received the award at a special event on Nov. 14 in London at the Lancaster Hotel, attended by 500 nominees and special guests. Nominees represented many other of the world's leading business schools such as Harvard Business School, Tuck, UCLA, Oxford, Insead and LBS.

In World 3.0: Global Prosperity and How to Achieve It, Prof. Ghemawat examines globalization and many assumptions made about it. He refutes the idea that there is a single global economy, arguing that nations are much more disconnected than most people believe. He also discusses how business opportunities can arise from these regional differences.

This year's The Thinkers50 listing was more international than ever, with than 10,000 votes cast for the candidates. The Thinkers50 has 10 established criteria by which thinkers are evaluated: originality of ideas; practicality of ideas; presentation style; written communication; loyalty of followers; business sense; international outlook; rigor of research; impact of ideas and the guru factor.

Listed as the most influential living management thinker was innovation expert Prof. Clayton Christenson of Harvard Business School.

Prof. Ghemawat is the Anselmo Rubiralta Professor of Global Strategy at IESE. Prior to that he was the youngest full professor ever appointed at Harvard Business School. He is also the author of Games Businesses Play: Cases and Models (1997); Creating Value through International Strategy (2005); Redefining Global Strategy; Crossing Borders in a World Where Differences Still Matter (2007); and Strategy and the Business Landscape (2009).
