Today IESE's 2011 Global Alumni Reunion starts in Madrid with a record 2,700 alumni and friends registered for the event, which features academic sessions at the Palacio de Congresos. The inaugural event takes place Thursday evening: a welcome reception at the Thyssen Museum with the participation of Michel Camdessus, honorary governor of the Bank of France.
Tomorrow the academic sessions begin with a welcome from IESE's Dean Jordi Canals; the president of the Alumni Assocation, Antonio González-Adalid; the director of the Alumni Division, Mireia Rius; and the academic directors of the Global Alumni Reunion, Profs. Javier Quintanilla and Julián Villanueva.
Throughout the day, numerous presentations and panel discussions will take place, led by Isidro Fainé, president of La Caixa and Caixabank; Ángel Cano, CEO of BBVA; Hans Ulrich Maerki, non-executive member of the board of ABB; Luis Abril, technical director of Telefonica; Ferran Adríà, chef and co-director of the Fundación El Bulli; Carlos Cordón-Cardó, vice president and professor of pathology at Mount Sinai Medical School; José Manuel González-Páramo, member of the Executive Committee of the European Central Bank; and Jesús M. Prieto, director of hepatology at the Clínica Universitaria de Navarra, among others.
On Saturday, a host of cultural activities will be organized: a visit to the Palacio Real and las Descalzas Reales, a golf tournament and a visit to the facilities of Telemadrid, which will provide a great opportunity for networking and renewing friendships outside the classroom. Those who can't attend the event in person can follow live via videoconference (https://iese.webex.com) or Twitter under the hashtag #IESEGAR.
