Design thinking has become a buzzword in the marketplace, but what does it really look like and constructively do in the context of organizations today? In a special session with alumni moderated by IESE Prof. Joaquim Vilà at IESE's New York Center, Elizabeth Pastor gave a talk on how her company, Humantific, works with leaders seeking to drive change making in organizations.
Humantific was an early pioneer in the application of design thinking to transformation in organizational and social contexts. Pastor argues that it is becoming increasingly recognized that many challenges facing organizations, societies, and ultimately our planet, cannot be solved by creating more products and services.
Humantific's unique approach involves realization that before change can happen in any context, significant amounts of sensemaking often has to occur. During her talk, she highlighted four case studies: (1) A Telecom in Madrid seeking to cocreate a new online strategy (2) A 30,000 member healthcare network seeking to reskill an internal consulting team (3) A leadership team seeking to reinvent a digital financial services company and (4) A financial services company creating an internal future sensing and imagining program for their teams..
