This Friday and Saturday, IESE's Barcelona campus will host the 9th edition of the Doing Good and Doing Well (DGDW) annual conference. Organized by MBA students, the event will include the participation of entrepreneurs, executives, students and civic leaders who will discuss new business and economic models rooted in ethics, transparency and solidarity.
Under the theme "Achieving Sustainability in Business and Society”, business leaders from diverse sectors will share their views on innovative socially responsible business models with more than 500 MBA students. In the wake of the financial crisis and as ways of doing business are being redefined, the need to be socially responsible has never been so urgent, organizers say.
Among the speakers will be Gavin Neath, vice president for sustainability for Unilever, who has completed agreements with governmental entities involving the sustainable purchasing of raw materials used by Unilever and fought to ensure that suppliers follow sustainable principles. Also speaking will be Jacques Pieraerts, president and CEO of Toyota Spain, who has helped lead the charge to implement sustainability in the auto sector.
Chief of Staff of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Jeffrey Spector will address how he moved from being a financial analyst to a new career focused on development and how he works to identify new ways of providing financial coverage for the neediest in society. Mark Drewell, CEO of Globally Responsible Leadership Initiative, moved to Africa to carry out the expansion of the industrial company Barloworld. He will talk about how he has fought to advance development in Africa, going on to found the Middelburg Forum, which has become the inspiration for many development and peace initiatives in Africa.
This year's edition of Doing Good and Doing Well will feature these four main speakers, as well as numerous others from leading companies such as La Caixa, Forbes, the Interamerican Development Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Accenture, Codespa, Novartis and many more.
