Biography Javier Estrada is professor and head of the Department of Financial Management at IESE. His areas of specialization are portfolio management, equities, emerging markets, corporate finance, law and economics and econometrics. Prof. Estrada earned his Ph.D. in economics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He also holds an M.Sc. in finance from the same university, as well as a B.A. in economics from the Universidad de La Plata (Buenos Aires, Argentina). Before joining IESE he was a faculty member of the departments of economics (1993-95) and business (1995-97) of the Carlos III University (Madrid, Spain). He has also taught at the Swedish School of Economics and Business Administration (Finland), Copenhagen Business School (Denmark), Torcuato Di Tella University (Argentina), IEEM (Uruguay), IPADE (Mexico), ESE (Chile) and Lagos Business School (Nigeria). Prof. Estrada is also a wealth management advisor at Sport Global Consulting. He has published extensively in refereed journals and in the popular press. His recent publications include "Countries versus Industries in Emerging Markets: A Normative Portfolio Approach" (with Mark Kritzman and Sebastien Page) in the Journal of Investing (2006); "Downside Risk in Practice" in the Journal of Applied Corporate Finance (2006); and "Adjusting P/E Ratios by Growth and Risk: The PERG Ratio" in the International Journal of Managerial Finance (2005). He has also written the book Finance in a Nutshell: A No-Nonsense Companion to the Tools and Techniques of Finance, recently published by Prentice Hall - Financial Times (2005).
