Biography

Rama Velamuri is assistant professor at the China Europe International Business School (CEIBS), where he teaches entrepreneurship and negotiation in the MBA, Executive MBA and executive programs. He is on leave of absence from IESE Business School, where he taught for four years from 2003 to 2007. He received a bachelor of commerce degree from the University of Madras, an MBA from IESE Business School, and a Ph.D. from the Darden Graduate School of Business, University of Virginia. He has also been a visiting professor at the Indian School of Business since 2004, and has taught at business schools in the U.S., Germany, Mexico, Peru, Uruguay, Egypt and Nigeria.

Prof. Velamuri has been a facilitator in executive programs for companies such as Henkel Technologies, Abbott Laboratories, Goodyear-Dunlop, Grupo Santander, BBVA, Vodafone, Telefonica, and Nissan Europe. He has also worked with the CEO-Collaborative Forum, made up of 30 CEOs of young, high-growth, venture capital-backed European technology companies (http://www.ceo-cf.com).

He has worked as a consultant with the World Bank and the International Finance Corporation in case writing and curriculum development projects in India and Nigeria, as well as in the setting up of entrepreneurship development centers in Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania, and Rwanda. He represents venture capital funds on the boards of directors of early stage companies and is also an advisory board member in entrepreneurial ventures.

He has two main areas of research focus. The first lies at the intersection of entrepreneurship and business ethics, and explores how the ethical behaviors of firm founders influence their ability to mobilize stakeholder support. The second examines the relationship between entrepreneurial strategies and firm growth. His research has been published in both academic and practitioner outlets. He has also contributed several book chapters on entrepreneurship and strategy and has developed more than 15 case studies. Some of his research can be downloaded from his author page on the Social Science Research Network http://ssrn.com/author=485205
