| 4.4. Company Presentations
|
|
Company presentations provide opportunities
for students and potential employers to get acquainted before employment
interviews. Such pre-recruitment programs introduce you to many facets
of a company, including their products and services, current business
challenges, corporate culture, and the career opportunities for MBAs.
Most firms focus on their long-term hiring needs, although summer internships
are often discussed. Some organizations send one or two individuals to
make a presentation, while others send a team of representatives. Senior
managers are often involved, along with functional managers and human
resource staff. Gatherings vary in content and style, often reflecting
the cultures and priorities of the presenting companies.
Company presentations are generally scheduled
after classes, Monday through Thursday. Presentations last for one hour,
allowing the last 20 minutes for questions from the students; informal
conversation follows and refreshments are sometimes offered.
The networking which occurs during these
programs is vital to employers and students alike. Firms use this time
to answer your questions and to take note of individuals they consider
strong candidates for their organization. You should similarly see this
as an excellent chance to meet key company contacts. Getting hired often
begins with this type of relationship building, so take full advantage
of the opportunity.
Signing
up for presentations
The Career Development Office advertises
and makes catering arrangements for company presentations. We ask all
students who expect to attend a company presentation to sign up for the
event at least two working days in advance so we can do the necessary
planning. Knowing how many people will attend helps us arrange rooms and
catering, and helps firms decide how many representatives to send.
As with any formal social occasion, signing
up for a presentation is a commitment to attend. If you sign up, but have
to change your plans at the last minute, please notify our office.
