This year's new MBA class is particularly notable for two reasons: its international character, with overseas participants representing more than 80 percent of the student body, and a tangible increase in the number of female students.
In just two years the number of female MBA students at IESE has risen by four percent. Of a total of 215 students participating on this year's program, 29 percent are women. The class of 2010 also boasts an average age of 27 years; students speak an average of three languages and come from countries as far and wide as Brazil, Chile, Germany, India, Japan, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States. 34 percent of the students have backgrounds in engineering; 24% in business administration; 16 percent in economics and finance, while the remaining 26 percent have studied sciences, humanities or law.
Over the course of the 19-month program, students will have the opportunity to participate in exchange programs with 23 leading international business schools, including Wharton, Columbia, Kellogg, MIT, Duke, Berkley, Michigan, Darden and the London Business School.
For over four decades IESE has sought, through its MBA program, to create a unique educational experience that is highly rewarding on both a personal and professional level. A measure of its success can be gleaned from the achievements of MBA alumni, many of whom now occupy senior management positions at some of the worlds leading international companies.
This month also saw the launch of the Class of the Global Executive MBA - Monthly Format, which was inaugurated in Barcelona on September 8. The class consists of a group of 28 high-caliber participants representing 12 different nationalities. The new class reflects the same diversity that has been seen in the Bimonthly Class in terms of average experience and industries represented.
The Global Executive MBA - Monthly Format offers the same content and number of sessions as the Bimonthly Format but in a markedly different layout: it consists of six 3-month modules with a weekly residential period (Monday to Friday) every month. The residential periods will take place in Barcelona, Madrid, New York and India.
