Global Alumni Reunion 2009: A One-of-a-Kind Experience
For the first time in its history, the reunion is held in America
October 6, 2009

IESE's Global Alumni Reunion will take place this year Oct. 10-11 in New York City. The theme of the event will be "Reframing the Future of Business." For the fourth time in its history, the reunion will be held outside of Spain, following previous editions in Amsterdam, London and Munich. More than 1,000 from 40 different countries are expected to attend.

Among the speakers will be Dr. Valentín Fuster, world-known cardiologist and director of the cardiology department at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York; Kathryn Wylde president of the Partnership for New York City; Antonio Pérez, CEO of Kodak; Baldomero Falcones, chairman of FCC; and IESE professor Pankaj Ghemawat. Numerous other experts in areas such as finance, banking and media will also deliver presentations.

"We are thrilled to have such prominent speakers, who are attracted to the Global Alumni Reunion by the school's reputation," said Mireia Rius, director of the IESE Alumni Division.

Professors Paddy Miller and Pedro Videla, academic directors of the reunion, have highlighted the quality of the speakers, as well as their diversity. The objective of the event is to stimulate debate and provide alumni and friends with new perspectives on timely topics.

With the future of business as the overarching theme, the academic program will be structured in three key areas: technological development, the global leconomic andscape and new work scenarios.

"The media has been particularly influential on the public's confidence in financial institutions and consumer confidence over the past year. It will be interesting to have an insider's opinion from key players in the industry," says Prof. Videla. Alumni will gain insights from Matthew Bishop, The Economist's chief business writer for the U.S. and Alan Murray, deputy managing editor at The Wall Street Journal.

The Waldorf Astoria and Cipriani 42nd will offer memorable settings for the reunion. The Waldorf Astoria will be the backdrop for the academic sessions, while Cipriani 42nd will be the site of the gala dinner.

"This is the first time that the reunion will be held on the other side of the Atlantic, and so we wanted it to be unforgettable. For this reason, the atmosphere of the Global Alumni Reunion will be marked by prestige, history and professionalism," said Rius.
