IESE alumni living and working in Mexico recently gathered for a real estate conference at IPADE's campus. The conference was organized by Prof. José Luis Suárez with the support of Carlos Acedo Moreno (MBA '88), President of the Alumni Regional Chapter in Mexico.
The activities included a panel discussion with presentations by Carlos Gutiérrez, National Commisioner for Housing Promotion (Conafovi), a branch of the Mexican Government; Carlos Acedo Valenzuela, Secretary General of Infonavit and Enrique Vainer, President of Sadasi construction.
The session was titled "Housing Rights: Experiences in Mexico and Spain" and drew an audience of over 40 people. Prof. Suárez opened his speech highlighting IESE's interest in dedicating resources to researching and educating senior managers on this sector.
Addressing the Spanish market, Suaréz said that there is "a certain over-evaluation of housing prices in Europe, and especially in Spain." He used Mexico as an example of a country that offers housing credits through public institutions which are managed professionally through Infonavit. In Spain, on the other hand, they are only offered through private organizations.
The event closed with a cocktail reception, which also took place at IPADE's main campus. This reception gave alumni the opportunity to catch up, and exchange opinions with the speakers, who also attended.
