FAQs

How is the program structured?

The Program for Management Development is spread over 5 months. It includes four 1-week residential modules; two of them take place on IESE's Madrid campus, one on the Barcelona campus, and one at IESE's New York Center. In between the residential weeks, participants remain in contact with faculty and fellow participants while preparing for the next residential module. The program's unique structure allows participants to benefit from an intensive learning environment without putting their careers and lifestyle on hold.

Dates

Module 1:February 14 - 19, 2011 (Madrid)
Module 2:March 28 - April 1, 2011 (Barcelona)
Module 3:May 9 - 13, 2011 (New York)
Module 4:June 27 - July 1, 2011 (Madrid)

How will I learn and how much time will the workload take up?

Teaching method:
The teaching methods are highly interactive and include case studies, discussions, simulations, presentations, and small-group learning activities and breakout sessions. The case method engages faculty and participants in an interactive process of analysis and in-depth discussion that facilitates problem solving and decision-making skills. It ensures that real life situations are discussed and real problems solved. Participants are encouraged to look both internally and externally at the way they operate and the complex and volatile market in which they compete. These two perspectives provide a focus for both professors and participants to establish a learning environment that will create value in every sense. All participants are encouraged to complete their "learning logs" daily; thus when they return to their companies they are equipped with a meaningful and tangible "take-home agenda."

Workload during residential modules:
You can expect to be fully occupied with classes, study and organized social activities during the residential modules. This means that you should try to leave any work responsibilities at the office. On average, you will spend eight hours each day at IESE dedicated to classes and teamwork, normally attending four to five sessions a day. The rule of thumb is that each class or case study requires two hours' advance preparation time. One month prior to the start of the residential modules you will receive a package including pre-readings to give you time to prepare before the program starts.

Workload during distance learning modules:
The distance learning modules will consist of preparation for the next residential module, individual and collaborative team work. You can expect that this will take up on average four hours a week.

What will the class look like?

Class size will be between 35 and 45 participants. Your fellow participants will typically be functional managers or professional specialists at an early stage in their careers and from variety of areas, who wants a solid general management overview.

Where will I stay during the residential modules?

Accommodation will be provided at a nearby four star hotel. During the residential modules, participants will have a booked room from Sunday through Saturday. Should participants prefer an early arrival or late departure, IESE will make these arrangements, subject to hotel availability.

What is the dress code during the program?

Informal attire is appropriate for the classroom. For the closing dinner, we suggest that men bring a jacket and tie and women bring similarly formal attire. The temperatures in Spain during Modules 1 and 2 (February, March) will likely range between 5º and 15º degrees. Module 3 (May) takes place in New York City, where the average temperature range in May is typically between 11º and 21º degrees, while for Module 4 in Spain (June) temperatures should range between 20º and 30º degrees.

What is the application procedure?

Applications for admission are accepted throughout the year and should be received at least two months prior to the program's start date. Due to limited class size, early application is encouraged. Late applications will be considered if space is still available in the program.

Candidates can apply on-line or by downloading the application form and submitting it by fax or e-mail.  All complete applications will be thoroughly reviewed by the program's Admissions Committee, which will be the sole judge of a candidate's qualifications to enter the program. Due to class size restraints and the need to have a balanced mixture of background, sometimes not all fully qualified applicants can be admitted to the program.
