The Department of Business Ethics operates within the framework of IESE's mission to offer a service to society, and especially to the business world.

• We understand ethics as human excellence, which must be manifest wherever human action takes place, including business contexts. This demands, first of all, respect for people and for human rights, promoting the personal development of those who take part in business activity, and respect for the environment.

• We consider business to be a human reality in which ethics is not an "extra," but something essential. That is why our objective is not limited to the study of ethically-conflictive cases, but also strives for managerial styles and organisational and corporate cultures with high human quality.

• We base our work on a realistic ethics which takes into account the intrinsic good of the person, the corresponding principles and norms for decision-making and human virtues, which are acquired through action. This is carried out through dialogue with other approaches, and with a profound respect for cultural and religious pluralism.

• We try to be very close to the reality of business and to develop consistent philosophical bases with the support of the social sciences. At the same time, we see religion as an important vital force for ethical conduct. Likewise, we value moral theology as a rational development of faith. So, in addition to conceptual approaches from philosophy, we apply Christian moral theology in business ethics.
