IESE is initiating a major field research project aimed at identifying and studying growth leaders. We are trying to identify business leaders in established businesses who have achieved exemplary, internally-generated revenue growth.
IESE Professors Mª Julia Prats and Rama Velamuri will be the faculty members leading this project.
Focus
This field research project is aimed at understanding the qualities, capabilities, and practices of business leaders in established organizations, across organizational levels and functions, who have demonstrated the ability to foster internally-generated revenue growth—or organic growth—on a sustained basis.
In particular, we are interested in the background, experiences, and approaches of growth leaders themselves, and how they differ from our notions of traditional “good leaders.”
Some of our questions of interest include:
What are the personal characteristics of some managers that make them effective as growth leaders?
How do growth leaders recognize and select opportunities to pursue?
What are the steps that growth leaders take to pursue these opportunities?
What performance indicators do successful growth leaders use to monitor the progress of a new initiative?
What does it take to develop and nurture growth leaders and their teams?

IESE Business School will collaborate on this project with the Batten Institute at the Darden Graduate School of Business, University of Virginia.
