Munich

1. Allianz Arena

With the 2006 FIFA World Cup taking place in Munich this summer, sports fans might want to visit Allianz Arena, the newly built, futuristic-looking stadium where the hotly follo-wed football match occurred.

2. Frauenkirche Cathedral

You can’t miss seeing the landmark Frauenkirche cathedral, which was the current Pope Benedict’s seat when he was Archbishop of Munich, and where he is due to visit again when he returns to his native Bavaria this September.

3. Olympic Park

Visit the Olympic Park, where the 1972 summer games took place. Bravehearted alumni can climb on the Olympic stadium roof - the largest in the world - affording incomparable views of the city skyline and glimpses of the Alps in the distance, as well as the chance to abseil down afterwards.

4. Viktualienmarkt

For a less strenuous activity, head to Viktualienmarkt in the heart of the city, and give your taste buds a workout with several varieties of delicious Bavarian specialties.

5. Hofbräuhaus

Re-fuel at the world-famous Hofbräuhaus beer hall - a favorite pitstop during social outings organized by IESE for AMP participants. There’s live Bavarian music between 11 and 3, and from 6 p.m. onwards.

6. Castle of King Ludwig

AMP participants have also enjoyed IESE-organized excursions to King Ludwig II’s fairytale castle of Neuschwanstein, and alumni at the reunion will have a chance to do the same.

7.  Austrian Alps or Salzburg

After all the academic talk of conducting business across borders, why not cross the border for real and hit the Austrian Alps - less than an hour’s drive away. Or take a two-hour train ride to Salzburg, which is this year celebrating the 250th birthday of its most famous son, Mozart, with a special series of exhibitions and concerts.

8. Deutsches Museum

Alumni are encouraged to bring their children aged 16 and up, as there will be a youth program. Among the many great museums for kids is Deutsches Museum, described as Disney meets the Smithsonian. Featuring interactive science and technology displays spread over eight floors, you could spend days here. But don’t, because you might want to save time for...

9. Bavaria Film Studio

Tour Bavaria Film Studio, on the outskirts of the city, where you can go behind the scenes and see the submarine used in Wolfgang Petersen’s 1981 hit Das Boot.

10. Tegernsee

Finally, unwind at Tegernsee, a lake located about an hour’s drive from Munich, in one of Germany’s most beautiful country side settings. Have lunch at Tegernseer Bräustüberl, followed by cake at Café Angermeier in Enter-Rottach, a hidden gem where the view from the terrace is straight out of a postcard.
