Entrepreneurship

IESE’s Entrepreneurship Department focuses on new venture creation, as well as intrapreneurship and entrepreneurial management within existing organizations. Entrepreneurial skills development is central to IESE’s MBA program. Reflecting this, more than a third of IESE’s alumni have participated in the creation of a company sometime during their careers.

Among its many activities, the department leads the core second-year course on entrepreneurship, taught since 1974, in which students develop business plans. The best projects are presented at the New Business Forum, which is held annually at IESE. A venture capital fund, created in 1999, provides seed money for selected student entrepreneurs.

Main research areas:
  • Creation of new ventures: success and failure factors
  • The various stages of the venture creation process
  • Intrapreneurship and innovation management
  • New venture financing: business angels and venture capital
