Playing by the Rules: Regulation and Antitrust

Barcelona, September 30 - October 3, 2008

“You are never too old to be surprised.”
- Jack Welch, after the failed GE-Honeywell merger

As globalization fuels the number of mergers and acquisitions around the world, governmental regulations are becoming highly complex. As a result, companies are finding it increasingly challenging to formulate business strategy that complies with legal frameworks.

Playing by the Rules: Regulation and Antitrust is a unique program that helps participants develop successful business models within regulated environments. The program provides an introduction to government intervention in competition issues, from the perspective of business. In particular, the program explores the nature of information-based and service business, and how companies in these sectors frequently find themselves in dominant market positions which subsequently trigger government intervention.

Managers will gain invaluable insights into the competitive dynamics of these industries and how regulation and antitrust law can be taken into account when formulating business strategy. They will learn how to avoid surprises like the one Jack Welch experienced with the failed GE-Honeywell merger.
