Cross-Cultural Management Network
The IESE - IRCO's Cross-cultural Management Network is an international network whose aim is to promote cross-cultural research, related to human behavior in organizations. A global network allows us to maintain long-term cross-national collaboration, one of the main recommendations suggested by Anne S. Tsui (Journal of Management/June 2007), in order to advance the quality of cross-cultural research. Such a global network, with researchers from different specialties in the human behavior field, permits researchers to join in different research projects depending on the topic under study.

Current Project

Currently, the IRCO's cross-cultural management network is undertaking the TOL project which aims to measure Trust/OCB and Leadership competencies in 18 countries.

Long Term Vision

Our long term vision (PDF, 33 Kb) is to approach the complexity of human behavior in organizations, in an increasingly changing and global world. In this context, it intends to go in depth into those cross-cultural aspects that enrich both people's and organizations' lives. This is a way of serving the academic world, firms, and society in general.

This long term project will have the support of the organizational structure and means of IRCO (International Research Center on Organizations), and will collaborate closely with it, promoting its international projection.

Methodology

Cross-cultural research has traditionally used cultural categories (such as power distance, or masculinity-feminity) to explain differences in behaviors and practices in different cultures. However, this research mainly consists of simple comparisons of results between two or few different cultures in order to find differences with the established models that have been developed in the Western world. The results so far are inconclusive, because this research has been conducted without a proper methodology to identify the underlying cross-cultural influence in the different relationships of the models. Our research is based on a new methodology called Hierarchical Linear Models (PDF, 296 Kb) that allows for measurements at different levels of analysis. This new tool gives researchers the opportunity to understand how culture really influences different processes in organizations and how it significantly contributes to the quality of the research.
