Eduard Ballarín
Co-director of the Center

Eduardo Ballarín is a professor in the Department of General Management. He holds a doctorate in Business Administration from Harvard Business School and a doctorate of Business and Economics from the University of Barcelona. He has published widely in strategy and organization, with particular emphasis on the financial services and telecommunications industries. He has been actively involved in several mergers of major financial institutions in Spain, including BBV (Banco Bilbao-Vizcaya) and "la Caixa", the largest savings bank in Spain.

Dr. Ballarín's books include Commercial Banks Amid the Financial Revolution, (Ballinger, 1986), available in English, Spanish and Japanese, and Mergers and Acquisitions: An Integrative Approach (Alianza Ed, 1994). He is also the co-author of Management Accounting, a classic textbook that is already in its 27th Edition (EUNSA, 2000).

He has consulted for companies such as Alcatel Standard, Bankinter, British Telecom, Airtel and KPMG. In addition, he has served as IESE's Director of Research and Course Development and Chairman of the Planning and Control Department. From 1993-96 he was co-chairman of the Global Program for Management Development, an Executive Education program offered annually by IESE Business School and the University of Michigan.

Dr. Ballarín is a founding partner of the Strategic Management Society and is a member of the Harvard Business School-IESE Advisory Committee, which meets each year. He is also a Fellow of the International Academy of Management.

Antonio Subirà
Co-director of the Center
 
Antoni Subirà has recently become a became a full-time member of the faculty of IESE Business School, where he has taught in other capacities for many years. He holds a doctorate in Industrial Engineering from the E.T.S.I.I. Terrassa and a Master of Sciences in Industrial Management from the  Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He served as the Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism of the Catalan Government until November 2002. Recently, he has  also served as a consultant for various companies including Cepsa, Nestlé, IBM and ACESA.

Dr. Subirá is currently Chairman of the Advisory Board of The Competitiveness Institute (TCI) and of the foundation Clusters and Competitiveness, and Member of the Advisory Board of Mercapital and Air Products. As Minister of Industry and Energy, Trade and Tourism, he has been a member of numerous Boards, including Presidency of the COPCA, Institut Català de Consum, Institut Català de Tecnologia, Turisme de Catalunya, Centro Internacional de Métodos Numéricos de la Universidad Politécnica de Cataluña, Catalana d'Iniciatives, the Spanish Institute of Foreign Trade (ICEX), and Fira Internacional de Barcelona, Mercapital. He has received the Order of the Rising Sun with Golden Rays and Neck Ribbon award.
