This consists of the study of the causes and consequences of work-family conflict and stress experienced by members of managerial and dual-career families. A managerial family is a family where at least one parent has an important managerial responsibility in his or her firm. A dual-career family is a family where both parents in addition to working full-time, pursue a professional career, and have children.
More specifically we will examine:
1. The relative weight of different possible causes of work-family conflict, such as personal values, coping skills, work stressors, family stressors, (lack of) support from the spouse, the employing organization, and the government.
2. The consequences of work-family conflict for the members of the dual-career families (parents and children) in terms of wellbeing and productivity.
3. The consequences of work-family conflict in these collectives for the employing organizations in terms of absenteeism, turnover, costs related to health problems, and loss of productivity.
4. The cultural differences in the experience of work and family demands; the specific experience of conflicts by expatriates.
5. The relative impact of possible solutions that can be offered by employers, service-providers, and governments to alleviate conflicts between work and family.
