  • Who can use the library?

    IESE Faculty, staff, alumni, Members and Supporting Companies may use the library.

    Others can use the library provided they bring a letter of authorization signed by a member of the IESE faculty.

  • Do I need passwords for library e-resources?

    On campus

    Once logged in to the IESE network, most e-resources are accessible without passwords from computers on the IESE campus. For exceptions check the Access info on our E-Resources List

    Off-campus

    Current students, faculty and staff: use your IESE username and password for off-campus access to library e-resources.

    Members of the IESE Alumni Association: see: Tools for Alumni Members

    IESE's Supporting Companies: see: Tools for IESE Supporting Companies

    Registering with e-resources for personal alerts etc.

    Many e-resources offer the option to create a personal account to receive alerts and other personalized services. If you choose to do this you must remember your own details as the library has no record of these accounts.

    Online book renewals, reservations and requests

    For these services you need a Library User ID and PIN. These are sent to you by email shortly after starting your program. Contact biblioteca@iese.edu for a reminder.

  • How can I access e-resources off campus?

    Current students, IESE staff and faculty

    Go to E-Resources List and click the resource you want.
    Enter your IESE username and password.

    Members of the Alumni Association & Supporting Companies

    You may access a limited set of e-resources from outside IESE. For full details see: Tools for Alumni Members or Tools for IESE Supporting Companies

  • Can IESE Alumni access E-Resources?

    Alumni who are members of the Alumni Association may access a restricted set of library e-resources from off campus.

  • Are there any restrictions on use of library resources?

    Yes. Your use of library resources is restricted by copyright law and legal contracts established between IESE library and the providers of electronic information resources.

    Typical restrictions include limiting use to authorized users for personal, non-commercial research. It is your individual responsibility to make sure you comply with these legal restrictions. Your failure to comply could result in the cancellation of a particular service for all IESE users.

  • How can I find out if the library has a book I need?

    Search for the book in the Library Catalog
    Click Details for info about the availability of each document.

  • Where can I find recommended books for my course?

    All of the books in the library, including course materials, are listed on the Library catalog

    We also have lists of Course Material on the library website, together with their Call Numbers indicating their location in the library.

    However, to check current availability, you will need to use the catalog.

  • How many books can I borrow? For how long?

  • What if I return a book late?

    We do not charge fines on overdue materials, but we do block users from borrowing or renewing any additional items until the late book is returned.

    Lost books should be either replaced or paid for. Please speak to library staff.

  • How do I renew a book I have on loan?

    Renew my Materials

    You will need your Library User ID and PIN

    Online renewals must be done before the expiration date of the loan. If you have forgotten your Library User ID and PIN, or should the system not accept the renewal, please contact biblioteca@iese.edu.

  • How do I reserve a book that is on loan?

    Find the book in the Library Catalog

    Display the Details

    Click Place Hold

    Enter your Library User ID and PIN

  • What is my Library "User ID and PIN"?

    Your Library User ID and PIN are needed to renew or reserve books online.

    NB. They are NOT for off-campus access to library e-resources such as Amadeus, Factiva etc.

  • Do we have access to electronic books through the library?

    Yes, via Ebrary.

    Ebrary is available from our E-Resources List

    Ebrary contains 20,000 electronic books from top commercial and academic publishers on all subjects. Business, management and careers title are well represented. Some Ebrary titles are also listed on the Library Catalog

  • What printing facilities are available?

    Free printing is available in Barcelona and Madrid libraries.

    A duplex printer is available in the Barcelona library.

  • Can I make photocopies?

    In the Barcelona library, a card-operated photocopier is provided. Cards cost 3.50 euros for 100 copies and are available from the library desk.

    In the Madrid library, photocopying is provided by the librarian.

    Library materials should be photocopied in accordance with copyright laws.

  • Can I send a fax from the library?

    No. You can send a fax from the Librería Garbí Bookstore on the Barcelona Campus.

  • Who can help me use library services and resources?

    Ask a Librarian for help with information research, e-resource use, library services and facilities.

    For IT problems not related to library e-resources, contact Help Desk.

  • Is there WiFi in the library?

    Yes, in both Barcelona and Madrid libraries.

  • Are there PCs in the library?

    Yes, there are six in Barcelona and three in Madrid. They are intended for information searching.

  • Who do I contact for IT support?

    Please contact Help Desk for IT problems not related to library e-resources.

  • Can I access the Harvard Business Review Online?

    Yes!

    IESE students staff and faculty have pdf access to every issue of the Harvard Business Review ever published, from 1922 to the present, via Business Source Premier.

    Access Business Source Premier via E-Resources List. Within Business Source Premier, use the Publications link to navigate to the Harvard Business Review or other specific titles.

    Please note: the library does not have passwords for the Harvard Business Review's own website. You must access via Business Source Premier to be a recognised IESE user.

  • Does the library have passwords for FT.com and WSJ.com?

    In general, the library does not have passwords for the websites of individual publications such as the Financial Times and Wall Street Journal. Instead we subscribe to services that aggregate the content from many sources, such as Factiva.

    Factiva contains the text of articles from the Financial Times (1980 to the present*), archived content from FT.com (September 2000 to the present*) and full text articles from various editions of the Wall Street Journal (1979 to the present).

    *Some newspapers have an embargo on Factiva. Content from the Financial Times (print) is available with a one-day delay, and from FT.com with a two-day delay, for example.

    Don't forget that you will also find today's FT in the library hall, along with copies from the previous week.

  • What is Citation Searching?

    The idea of citation searching is to start with a known author or work and, using a citation index, retrieve details of other works that cite the original work. In theory, if an author is citing another author's work, they are probably writing on the same or a related topic.

    ISI Web of Knowledge contains citation indexes that allow you to do this sort of search. Access via E-Resources List.

    Tips for citation searching on ISI Web of Knowledge:

    • 1. Select Web of Science within ISI Web of Knowledge
    • 2. Choose Cited Ref Search
    • 3. Enter details of your known work or author and click Search. You don't have to enter terms in all fields to retrieve references.
    • 4. Select the reference(s) that interests you, then click "Finish Search" to see citing articles.
  • JK Galbraith: Articles and books in IESE Library

    The renowned economist John Kenneth Galbraith died April 29 2006 leaving behind a wealth of literature through which he spread his ideas.

  • What's the best source for company info?

    The answer to this question is always "it depends what you are looking for"!

    Your choice of e-resource will depend on the country of registration of the company and its status (public or private). It will also depend on the kind of information you need: a quick overview, accounts, share price data, strategies, executive names, peer comparisons etc.

  • Where are the investment bank reports?

    We have online access to a range of investment bank reports via Investext Plus.

    There are also some investment bank reports available for emerging markets on ISI Emerging Markets.

  • How do I access Datamonitor company profiles?

    Datamonitor is a major publisher of company profiles detailing key company facts, employees, business description and history, products and services, top competitors and locations and subsidiaries. A collection of these profiles is available through Business Source Premier.

  • Where can I find market share figures?

    Find market share figures on GMID

    Global Market Information Database (GMID) contains information on top companies, brands and their market shares for key consumer goods sectors in certain world markets.

  • How can I identify companies by activity, region etc.?

    Several of our e-resources allow you to screen for companies that meet certain criteria including activity, geographic base, turnover, company status, number of employees etc.:

    Sabi (600,000 public and private Spanish companies). Choose Expert Search.

    Amadeus (250,000 public and private European companies). Choose Expert Search.

    Thomson One (40,000 public companies worldwide). Choose Search for Companies.

    Hoover's (public and well-known private companies worldwide). Choose Build a List.

    All resources, except Hoover's, offer downloading of data to Excel for personal, academic use.

  • What e-resources is best for country profiles?

    There is an excellent selection of country reports and profiles on Business Source Premier, including publications from the renowned Economist Intelligence Unit. These publications give you the political and economic situation in a given country, plus international relations, resources, education, population, health, transport, energy and industry data.

    Select the Country Reports link on the green panel, right of the screen.

  • How can I access Economist Intelligence Unit country publications?

    The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) is a well respected source of analysis and forecasting on over 200 countries and publishes a series of annually updated Country Profiles and Reports.

    The library has access to these in pdf format from 1996 to the latest profile via Business Source Premier.

    Select Publisher = Economist Intelligence Unit.

  • How do I find data on emerging markets?

    The library subscribes to a specialist portal for emerging markets data: ISI Emerging Markets.

  • Where can I find beta values?

    Beta values can be found on a number of the e-resources subscribed to by the library:

    Current and recent beta values Thomson One Banker (World).

    Find current betas in the Key Fundamentals section of the Company Overview.

    Amadeus (Europe) and Sabi (Spain). With the company report displayed, click the Format button and select Security and Price Info.

  • Where can I find market research reports?

    We are frequently asked for information about a particular market or industry. To satisfy your market information needs we subscribe to a range of specialist analytical market reports.

    If there is no report available on your sector of interest, you may find useful data amongst our statistical e-resources or in trade and industry magazines or the press.

  • How do I search trade and industry journals?

    Trade and industry journals: a useful source of market data

    All sectors have their specialist journals to keep professionals up to date with what is happening in the market, such as:

    • Securities Industry News
    • Computer Weekly
    • In-store Marketing
    • Hostelmarket
    • PR Line España
    • China Automotive News

    Thousands of these journals can be found in full text on Business Source Premier (English only) and Factiva (many languages). They are a good source of market news and statistics that you can use to supplement the information found in older market reports, or when there are no market reports available on your market of interest.
