A Brief History
IESE was founded in 1958 as the graduate business school of the University of Navarra with the intention of offering business leaders a holistic view of the firm and an emphasis on the ethical and human aspects of business activities. Its founding constituted a landmark in management education in Europe at a time when executive education was scarcely known outside the United States.
Since then IESE has grown steadily by offering an array of executive education programs for managers. It established a PhD program in 1969 and opened a campus in Madrid in 1974, where the Executive MBA was launched in 1982. The 1990’s saw the opening of new facilities and the arrival of the International Executive Education Programs as well the initial expansion to Brazil. Since the dawn of the new millennium IESE has grown from strength to strength with offices in Munich and programs in Shanghai and Warsaw. In 2007 the school celebrated its 50th anniversary by opening an office in New York, which has since expanded into a landmark dedicated building offering and increasing range of programs.
Today IESE continues to adjust its portfolio, expanding to new markets and refining it offerings to meet the demand of senior executives from around the world. Throughout this journey it has remained true to its core beliefs in the positive role that business should play in society.
