Professor Toribio, Recognized for Excellence in Finance
Award presented by the Institute for Financial Study
Juan José Toribio, Professor emeritus of economics and president of IESE’s Center for International Finance, was this year’s recipient of the IEF-everis Prize for Professional Excellence in Finance. The award acknowledges the excellence and breadth of his experience, having successfully combined financial management, consulting, teaching, a commitment to associations, and the dissemination of his research throughout his career.
The Institute for Financial Study (Institut d’Estudis Financers – IEF) has been awarding the prize since 2008. A reference for training and the dissemination of banking and financial research, the institute was founded over 20 years ago by the most influential financial entities in Spain in order to promote this sector’s competition, efficiency and internationalization, as well as to advance new initiatives.
Professor Toribio is one of the most internationally recognized Spanish economists. He has led a long and successful career with experience spanning the public and private sectors, as well as academia.
He originally became active in the public sector as an economist for the Spanish Central Bank. Later he held more senior roles, first within the Spanish government as general manager of financial policy for the Spanish Ministry of Finance and then in the international realm as executive director of the International Monetary Fund, based in Washington, D.C. Within the private sector, he has held the position of chairman for various financial and investment companies, including Caixabank Monaco and Inverban, SVB.
The awards will be presented at a special ceremony on November 25 in Barcelona.
