How should doctoral students prepare for a successful and impactful academic career in strategic management? The key is learning how to conduct careful research while keeping up with the state-of-the-art in the field.
To this end, IESE, INSEAD and the European Institute for Advanced Studies in Management (EIASM) jointly organize an annual seminar for PhD students in which the foundations for excellence in strategic management research are addressed.
The 2016 EDEN Advanced Strategic Management Doctoral Seminar brought together scholars from top business schools, including IESE, INSEAD, Wharton, Bocconi and the University of Toronto.
During the one-week, intensive program at IESE’s Barcelona campus, 29 PhD students from 22 universities around Europe had the opportunity to be "exposed to some of the leading, cutting-edge scholars in the field of strategic management and to learn more about how to conduct careful research in strategy,” explains IESE Professor Giovani Valentini, this year’s program coordinator.
Through a series of lectures and structured discussions, the program covered topics that included: value-based strategy, new methods for empirical work in strategy, business models, profiting from innovation, the effect of competition on firm organization, and the interplay between firm strategies and markets.
