The Family-Owned Business Chair is firmly committed to research and focus on its aim to promote and support initiatives in the area of family businesses and business families.

This year, The International Family Owned Business Conference, coinciding with IESE Business School's 50th Anniversary, will provide a unique opportunity to exchange viewpoints and practical knowledge with prominent speakers of recognized universities within this field. The main theme is:

FAMILY VALUES AND VALUE CREATION:
The Fostering of Enduring Values within Family-Owned Businesses

It also offers an opportunity to strengthen the relationship between research and management and reinforce links between members of family businesses.


REGISTRATION

The conference is by invitation only. Enrollment is limited and those submitting early applications will be given preference.There is no conference fee; guests are only asked to pay for their transport and hotel expenses.


PROGRAM

The program is designed to be highly interactive with audience participation sessions, presenting the latest research developments related to the following topics:

  • The Value of Family Business
    Ways in which family businesses impact on society and the individual and how they can improve their contribution to both.

  • Finding the Right Structure
    Useful insights into the variety of family business structures and different ways families run their affairs. A proposed multi-dimensional framework for classifying family firms, a look at the growing use of SFOs and what difference it makes when the family business owner-manager is very involved in the firm and the family.

  • Building the Future
    Successful succession is about more than just preserving business value. Valuable lessons on how to sustain the values at the heart of the family firm when passing it to the next generation.

  • From Promises to Results
    Reflections on how the key values underpinning a family business influence its conduct and governance. Includes consideration of issues such as family disagreement over values and governance and how this affects a firm’s performance.

Raffi Amit
Professor of Management and Academic Director of the Goergen Entrepreneurial Management Programs at the Wharton School. Board of Directors positions in entrepreneurial settings and participated in the formation and growth of numerous companies.

Fernando Casado
Managing Director of the Family Enterprise Institute (IEF) in Barcelona with wide experience as business consultant. Chairman of the EAE and Executive Board of the Family Firm Institute (USA).

Guido Corbetta
Professor of Strategic Management in family business at Bocconi University and Dean of Bocconi Graduate School. Server on the board or consultant of five of the major family groups in Italy.
John A. Davis
Founder of the Owner Managed Business Institute and the faculty chair for Harvard Business School's Executive Education program. Recognized as one of the world's leading experts and advisors concerning family business and family wealth.
Miguel Angel Gallo
Server on the boards of management of prominent firms of America and Europe. President of the Family Business Consulting Group (Spain) and honorary president of IFERA.
Sabine Klein
Holder for Strategy and Family Business Department and Director of the European Family Business Center at European Business School, Germany. Founding board member and former President of IFERA.
Heinrich Liechtenstein
Professor of Financial Management at IESE Business School. Former Consultant at The Boston Consulting Group and working in wealth management and owners strategy with Liechtenstein Global Trust, a family holding.
Nigel Nicholson
Professor of Organizational Behaviour and a former Research Dean at London Business School. He has been pioneering the application of evolutionary psychology to business, and his current research is on leadership and family business.
Pedro Nueno
Professor of Bertran Foundation Chair on Entrepreneurship, IESE Business School. Professor and Executive President of  CEIBS, Shanghai. Member of the board or advisory board of several listed and privately held companies in USA, China and Europe.
Pramodita Sharma
Research Development Director for the School of Business & Economics at Wilfrid Laurier University, Canada. Active server as leadership and advisory in professional associations around the world.

Josep Tàpies
Holder of the Chair of Family-Owned Business and member of the Advisory Board of the International Center for Financial Research at IESE Business School. Consultant and Director of family-owned firms, as well as for Spanish and international banks.

Albert Jan Thomassen
Executive Director of FBNed – the Dutch Association of Family Firms. Associate to the Family Business Consulting Group, working with business owning families, especially multi generation families with sibling or cousins teams.

Ludo Van der Heyden
Director of the Advanced Management Program and Professor of Technology and Operations Management at INSEAD, France. Member of the Supervisory Board of NesBic Buyout Fund  and of van Meerbeek Invest, a Belgian family holding company.

Belén Villalonga
