INTRODUCTION
In the current economic context, the healthcare industry is facing constant pressure to control health expenditure. But we are not only facing a situation where we have to simply weather the storm. This is a structural crisis that requires structural changes. One of the major victories of the 20th century has been the lengthening of our lives and here healthcare systems and the health industry have been at the center of the achievement. However, longer lives imply different needs of healthcare, promotion and prevention. Our healthcare systems have to change in response to the miracle they have produced. Now, more than ever, we have to ensure that we define a sustainable long-term strategy that leads us to use the available resources in the best possible way to guarantee their contribution to value creation. Elements such as technology, new ways of helping patients take a more active role, public-private partnerships, agreements and alliances, are key. We need to seek new business models that facilitate coordination among all agents involved and foster value sharing to leverage the contributions that new organizational models and new technological and pharmaceutical products can bring to patients’ health. It is imperative that all the agents involved in healthcare, including politicians, patients, doctors, hospitals, nurses, pharmacist, pharmaceutical and medical device companies, come together to start thinking about what works and why. The IESE Healthcare Meeting offers a first-class platform for the exchange of perspectives among top executives, academics and healthcare professionals. It will combine keynote speakers, who will share their insight into the current state and the future of the sector, with several panels that will allow participants to share experiences and impressions about the key topics in today’s healthcare industry.
