BUILDING SUSTAINABLE SOCIETIES: Trends and Best Practices in Work and Family Balance is an International Congress that will take place during the 50th Anniversary of IESE Business School in Madrid on June 12, 2008. The congress will bring together renowned experts from around the world who will discuss the current trends and best practices to promote family responsible organizations and women in business as fundamental blocks to build sustainable societies.
The purpose is twofold: to raise awareness of the need to protect human ecology in order to build sustainable societies (fostering human and social capital), as well as bring to light the benefits, gained by both organizations and societies that promote work-family balance and flexibility in the work place.
The congress will start with an introduction by Her Royal Highness, the Princess of Asturias, Princess Letizia, followed by a presentation by Dr. Nuria Chinchilla, Director of the International Center of Work and Family at IESE Business School.
The experts will present trends and best practice in the following areas:
1. Work-Family Conciliation in Organizations 2. Women and Leadership in Organizations 3. Family Responsible Organizations
Target Audience
This congress is aimed at CEOs, managing directors, HR directors, public administration representatives and other agents of change who are seeking to improve society and their organizations’ work-family balance.
Simultaneous translations (Spanish to English and English to Spanish) will be provided in each session.

Dr. Stephen Bevan is Director of Research at The Work Foundation. He oversees a program of over 20 studies each year designed to enhance the UK’s evidence-base and to inform the climate of policy debate in the UK’s Boardrooms and in Whitehall. His areas of expertise include employee engagement, retention and well-being, work organization and job design. Stephen has carried out research and consultancy for the No. 10 Policy Unit, The Prime Minister’s Office for Public Services Reform (OPSR), HM Treasury, the Cabinet Office and the European Commission. He has also worked for many ‘blue-chip’ employers and several research councils and charitable trusts. |

Dr. Nuria Chinchilla is Professor at IESE Business School and Director of the International Center on Work and Family. Economist and Lawyer, she holds a Ph.D. in Management. Her areas of specialization include women and power, family-responsible organizations managerial competencies, career, time management and interpersonal conflict. She is a business and government consultant and member of several Advisory Boards such as VIP Advisory Board of European Professional Women's Network (EPWN). She has been awarded as the "Best Manager of the Year" by the Spanish Federation of Executive Women (FEDEPE). Co-author of several books including "Being a Family-responsible company: Luxury or need?" (Pearson Prentice Hall 2006), Co-author of "Female Ambition: How to Reconcile Work and Family (Palgrave 2005) and "Owners our destiny" (Eunsa 2008). |

Dr. Patrick F. Fagan is a Senior Fellow and the Director of the Center for Marriage and Religion. He has a B.S. degree with a double major in Sociology and Social Administration, a graduate degree in psychology (Dip. Psych.), and a Ph.D. in Social Policy from University College Dublin. He formerly worked with Senator Dan Coats of Indiana, and then was appointed Deputy Assistant Secretary for Family and Community Policy at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services by President George H.W. Bush, before spending the next 13 years at The Heritage Foundation as a senior fellow. He is married and has eight children. |

Dr. Lara Cathcart is an Associate Professor and Director of the Finance PhD Programme at the Tanaka Business School (Imperial College, London) and a Member of the Arab International Women’s Forum. AIWF is a non-profit organization, created to provide networking opportunities for professional Arab women all over the world. Dr. Cathcart has a Ph.D. in Financial Economics from the University of London. Her research focuses on several fields: credit risk, derivative pricing, housing finance and entrepreneurship. She is a strong supporter of the important role women can play as engines of growth in developing countries. |

Ms. Claudia Funke is Director of McKinsey. She leads the global Enterprise ICT Services Group, as well as the German High Tech Sector of McKinsey. She works primarily for industry leaders in software, IT services and telecommunications in Europe, USA, and Latin America. Prior to joining McKinsey in 1994, Claudia worked as a teacher for theoretical physics and maths at the University of Cologne, and as a professional dancer. Claudia has a daughter and lives in Munich. |

Ms. Ellen Galinsky is President and Co-Founder of Families and Work Institute. She is the author of over 35 books and reports, including Ask the Children: The Breakthrough Study That Reveals How to Succeed at Work and Parenting, selected by The Wall Street Journal as one of the best work life books of 1999. She has published more than 100 articles in academic journals, books and magazines. She was a presenter at the 2000 White House Conference on Teenagers and the 1997 White House Conference on Child Care, and recipient of the 2004 Distinguished Achievement Award from Vassar College. She has been married for 42 years and has two grown children. |

Ms. Antje Leist is a senior project manager of the berufundfamilie gGmbH - a subsidiary of the Hertie-Foundation, in Frankfurt, Germany. She holds an M.A. in Political Science and International Law from the University of Heidelberg and is currently responsible for the product development of the audit berufundfamilie - a management instrument for the certification of workplace policies regarding the reconciliation of work and family, and its variations for universities, communities and other European countries. |

Dr. Marcie Pitt-Catsouphes co-directs the Center on Aging & Work at Boston College. She is an Associate Professor at the Graduate School of Social Work and at the Carroll School of Management. She has a B.A. from Tufts University, an M.S.P. from Boston College, and Ph.D. from Boston University. She was a speaker at the 2005 White House Conference on Aging, and was a recipient of the 2007 Work-Life Legacy Award. She was a founding co-editor for the International Journal, Community, Work and Family. Her recent publications include The Work-Family Handbook: Multi-Disciplinary Perspectives and Approaches to Research, published by Erlbaum Publishers (2006) which she edited with colleagues. |

Dr. Steven A.Y. Poelmans has a Master in Organizational Psychology (University of Louvain; Belgium), a Master in Marketing Management (Vlerick Management School; Belgium), and Ph.D. in Management / Organizational Behavior (IESE Business School / University of Navarra, Spain). He is currently an Assistant Professor at the Managing People in Organizations Department of IESE Business School. He is the co-founder and Academic Director of the International Center of Work and Family. His research, teaching and consulting mainly focus on work-family conflict, managerial stress, family-friendly policies, and cultural intelligence, mostly with a cross-cultural perspective. He is author of many books (McGraw-Hill; Lawrence Erlbaum; Cambridge University Press) and articles in top academic journals. |

Mrs. Amparo Moraleda is the General Manager for IBM in Spain, Portugal, Greece, Israel and Turkey. Amparo Moraleda Martínez got her degree in Industrial Engineering in the Universidad Pontificia de Comillas and followed postgraduate studies at IESE Business School. Her professional career has been linked to IBM since 1988 where she's served several management positions in Spain and Europe such as head of Human Resources for IBM Global Services in EMEA. Moraleda was also executive assistant to Louis V. Gerstner, former president of IBM Corporation. In July, 2001, Moraleda was appointed General Manager for IBM Spain & Portugal. Since July, 2005, Moraleda is responsible for the company in Spain, Portugal, Greece, Israel and Turkey. |

Dr. Patricia Morgan, in addition to writing for periodicals, student texts, parliamentary debates and national newspapers, is also a frequent contributor to television and radio debate. She is the author of many books, among them: Children as Trophies (2002), Family Structure and Economic Outcomes (2004, for the Economic Research Council), Family Matters: Family Breakdown and its Consequences (a study in the New Zealand context: 2004) Family Policies, Family Changes (Sweden, Italy and the UK 2006 by CIVITAS) and now The War Between the State and the Family 2007 (Institute of Economic Affairs). She held the Morris Finer research studentship at London School of Economics 1979-1983. From 1978-87 she was a committee member for the Centre for Policy Studies, London, and Senior Research Fellow on the Family with CIVITAS (Institute for the Study of Civil Society) 1995-2006. She has a Visiting Fellowship with the School of Humanities, Buckingham University. |

Ms. Krista Walochik is Chairman and CEO of Executive Search and Leadership Consultancy firm, Norman Broadbent, in Spain. She holds a B.A. cum laude from George Washington University, an M.A. from Middlebury College, both in Spanish Literature and Language, as well as a Masters in Administration from the University of Maryland, with special focus on Organizational Development. She is also Board Director in quoted and private companies. Wife and mother, Krista is active in women’s forums and higher education. |

Mr. Brett Walsh is the EMEA Human Capital Leader in Deloitte Consulting and also coordinates the HR Transformation and M&A centres of excellence in the region. He is a former Chartered Civil Engineer with 20 years international business consulting experience. Prior to his current role, Brett led Human Capital in the UK for both Deloitte and Andersen. He has a MBA from Warwick University and is a Fellow of the Institute of Business Consulting and was ranked in ‘HR Magazine’s Top 100 Most Influential’ in 2006 and 2007. |
