2. Top picks in... Career Development and Job Search

“To find out what one is fitted to do, and to secure an opportunity to do it, is the key to happiness.” John Dewey (1859 - 1952)

The Library has selected a list of sources in order to help you to find out the job that fits you, where to find it and how to obtain it.  You can find these sources (including books, e-books, journals, databases and internet websites) organized under the following topics:

3. New products: Celex Database (EU official journals)

From the 1st of July 2004 the European Union is offering free access to Celex database http://europa.eu.int/celex/htm/celex_en.htm and the Library would like to introduce you to this new public tool which may be useful for you in order to find information related to economic and monetary policy & free movement of capital, taxation, competition policy, etc.

Coverage:

CELEX offers access to:

  • Legislation (including treaties, the Official Journals L & C, secondary legislation, supplementary legislation)
  • Case Law (including decisions of Community law courts, opinions of the Court of Justice of the European Communities)
  • Preparatory documents
  • Parliamentary questions

The database is updated daily and the documentation can be found in 11 official languages (Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish and Swedish) although some CELEX documents do not exist in all official EU languages. This may be due to the nature of the document or due to historical reasons and directly linked to the accession date of a new Member State. For example, documents no longer in force at the time of the accession of Sweden have not been translated into Swedish.

How to access:

Click on the following link to access the website: http://europa.eu.int/celex/htm/celex_en.htm. Although it is free accessible since July, the use of a login and a password is temporarily required.
Please use the login enlu0000 and the password europe.

How to search:

  • Menu searching is the main search option. If you know words of the title, the type of documents, the natural number or when was it published you can use any of the options below. To browse by subject you can use the “classification headings” of the Cross-file criteria.
  • Expert searching is a highly-sophisticated option for advanced search strategies. It let you combine several search criteria within a single query for fast and accurate results. You should be aware that it uses Java applets, which can be time-consuming to download.
  • Each document is presented with the Celex number, the title and the source & publication date.
  • It offers a variety of formats to visualize each document (including HTML, PDF and TIFF).
  • By clicking in “B- Biblio” you may see related documents: national implementing measures, select all documents mentioning the current one, select all documents based on this document and links to related or cited documentation.
  • Be aware that to see all results or narrow the search you may use the left menu options.
