1. Welcome: the 17th issue

Company financial statements are important primary data sources which can be used to judge the viability of a business as a potential employer, investment or debtor.

The recent financial statements of public companies are usually easy to obtain from company websites, but there are occasions when only a specialist financial data service may have the figures or the functionality that you need for your analysis. This newsletter focuses on those occasions and introduces the specialist data services that can help you. Most are high-cost commercial databases made available through IESE Library subscriptions and many are available off-campus.

We have also included a short booklist for financial statement analysis, as well as our regular New products and Recent book acquisitions sections.

No time to read this newsletter? For a quick overview of company information sources including sources of financial data, see Step-by-step: Company research.

3. New products: STAN – OECD Structural Analysis Statistics
The STAN database for Industrial Analysis provides analysts and researchers with a comprehensive tool for analysing industrial performance at a relatively detailed level of activity.  It includes annual measures of output, labour input, investment and international trade that allow users to construct a wide range of indicators to focus on areas such as productivity growth, competitiveness and general structural change. Through the use of a standard industry list, comparisons can be made across countries. The industry list provides sufficient detail to enable users to highlight high-technology sectors and is compatible with those used in related OECD databases.

STAN is currently available on campus only from the Library website > E-Resources > By alphabetical order.
