1. Welcome: the 18th issue

Summer is here and thoughts turn to getting away from it all. Just how many people will “get away”? Where will they go and how will they get there? What will they spend and what are they most likely to buy? Destinations are just as intriguing. Are they valued for “heart” factors such as friendliness of the locals or “head” factors such as a dynamic cultural scene? What percentage of their GDP relies on tourism?

The answers to these kinds of questions can be found by studying published market research, statistics, articles and books on the tourism sector. Newsletter 18 is your tour guide to these sources. Bon voyage!

3. New products and services: Encyclopedia Britannica and improved off-campus access

3.1 Encyclopedia Britannica

We have recently subscribed to the web version of Encyclopedia Britannica. Encyclopedia Britannica is one of the world’s most complete and accurate encyclopedias, containing a mixture of short and book-length articles. In addition, the web version includes photos, video clips and sound files and high quality websites selected by specialist editors.

Encyclopedia Britannica is available on and off-campus via Encyclopedias & Atlases.

3.2 Improved off-campus access

The library has changed to a simpler system for managing off-campus access to licensed electronic resources. The new system does not require you to configure your browser and does not block you from accessing the rest of the internet while you are doing research on the library resources.

How to access from off-campus: new system

• Current students, staff and faculty: Go to Library > E-Resources > By alphabetical order (or any of the other e-resource links on the library website)
• Click on the resource you want to access. You will be asked to log in. Enter your IESE network username and password, without the IESE\ or ALUMNO\ prefix.

• Members of the Alumni Association: Go to Library > Services for Alumni Members > E-Resource access (you MUST access from this page)
• Read the How to access information for each resource, then click on the resource links and enter the appropriate username and password.

Important information for regular users

The new system does not require browser configuration. Make sure you clear any old settings from your browser to avoid problems with the new system.

What can I access off-campus?

While the new system will hopefully be compatible with more resources, there are still some databases that cannot be accessed from outside IESE due to technical issues or licensing restrictions. See Off-campus access to e-resources for a list of unavailable resources.
