Search Tool: Global Financial Data

GFD, the comprehensive and extensive collection of historical financial and economic data, covering more than 200 countries extending back to 1265, has just been re-designed and its analysis tools have been improved.
Changes include:

• A new Filter Search that enables you to search for ADRs and other foreign stocks.
• Index histories for current and historical S&P sector indices added.
• The S&P Composite (_SPXD) has been extended back to 1791.
• Contents of the Economic Database have been expanded. Over 15,000 files on the United States, Europe and other countries have been added that include data on employment, government receipts and expenditures, industrial production, international trade, monetary aggregates and national accounts.

Access campus-wide and off-campus, from the Top E-Resources menu on the Library homepage, clicking on Global Financial Data or from the E-Resources List page.

Search Tool: Factiva

With its exhaustive search database, Factiva enables users to consult more than 9,000 news and trade sources (newspapers, magazines, press agencies) in 22 languages. Moreover, current and historical quotes on a range of financial instruments, including stocks, funds, currencies and market indices, are available going back approximately 5 years.

To search quotes by name:

• Select “Quotes” in the Companies/Markets tab.
• In the “Select Instrument” dropdown menu, select from “Stocks”, “Funds”, “Currencies” or “Market Indexes.”
• Enter a maximum of 20 symbols or the Reuters Instrument Code (RIC) separated by a space. If you do not know any click on “Symbol Lookup.”
• Select a range of dates, a currency and a viewing format.
• Click on “Get Quote.”

NOTE: The formatted table is the default option but it is also very easy to bring up an interactive chart. All you need to do is click on the image of the graph or the “Get Interactive Chart” link.
