Established by DG Enterprise in 1998 the IPR-Helpdesk is a free service currently delivered as an accompanying measure by a consortium of partners from Poland, Germany, and Spain.

The European Patent Office portal offers technical and legal information regarding patents. The mission of the EPO is to support innovation, competitiveness and economic growth for the benefit of the citizens of Europe. Its task is to grant European patents for inventions, on the basis of a centralized procedure. By filing a single application in one of the three official languages (English, French and German) it is possible to obtain patent protection in some or all of the EPC contracting states. Almost all of their internet services are free of charge.
