We subscribe to several company information databases that allow you to build lists of companies active within a specified sector.  These databases are listed below with hints on useful activity classifications for the travel and tourism sector.

Sabi and Amadeus

Sabi contains company data for 900,000 public and private Spanish companies. Amadeus covers 250,000 public and private European companies.

Both databases are available via Library > E-Resources > By Alphabetical order . They can be accessed on and off-campus.

Within Sabi or Amadeus, select Expert search, then use the options under Activity. It is usually better to select companies using one of the company classification schemes available rather than searching the activity description. Below are some suggestions of useful classifications to add to your search using the CNAE/NACE 1.1 Rev scheme:

CNAE 1.1 633 (Activities of travel agencies and tour operators, assistance activities)
CNAE 1.1 551 (Hotels)
CNAE 1.1 5521 (Youth hostels and mountain refuges)
CNAE 1.1 5522 (Camping sites, including caravan sites)
CNAE 1.1 5523 (Other provision of lodgings)
CNAE 1.1 6010 (Transport via railways)
CNAE 1.1 6021 (Other scheduled passenger land transport)
CNAE 1.1 6110 (Sea and coastal water transport)
CNAE 1.1 6120 (Inland water transport)
CNAE 1.1 6210 (Scheduled air transport)
CNAE 1.1 6220 (Non-scheduled air transport)
CNAE 1.1 9233 (Fair and amusement park activities)
CNAE 1.1 9234 (Other entertainment activities nec)

Add as many or as few codes to your search as you like.  When you have run your search, click the List tab to see the matching companies and on the company names to see the company reports.

Hoovers

Hoovers contains data on public and large private companies worldwide.

Hoovers is available via Library > E-Resources > By Alphabetical order . It can be accessed on and off-campus.

To identify companies in the tourism sector, choose Industries. You then have the options to enter an industry keyword, SIC or NAICS code or browse Hoovers’ industry categories.

Thomson One

Thomson One covers listed companies worldwide. Use the blue Search for companies button and one of the industry classification options to identify tourism companies. Useful SIC codes include:

SIC 4724 Travel agencies
SIC 4725 Tour operators
SIC 4729 Passengers transport arrangements, nec
