2009: Looking Back While Moving Forward
Dear Friends,
As the U.S. Director of Development at IESE's New York Center, I am very pleased to write to some of you for the first time, and extend my thanks to all others, for your continued support of IESE's overall vision as a global business school.
As we come to the end of a year defined by tumultuous events that have included global market upheavals and political conflicts in various parts of the world, each one of us has, in some way, been affected. Throughout it all, the IESE Business School community has forged ahead, garnering achievements that have transcended all obstacles. The most recent rankings by prestigious national and international media monitors, such as the Financial Times, The Economist and Forbes, attest to IESE’s values-based, people-centered academic excellence.
In this first edition of Outreach, we will focus on IESE’s presence in New York and the several driving forces that brought this project to realization. These include the landmark building that will soon be home to the IESE New York executive education and research center, a selection of events organized over the past year, a look at recent IESE research and a glimpse of the first half of 2010. This issue also includes a recent article published in The Economist, which featured comments from Dean Jordi Canals and IESE’s plans for the future in the North American market.
The more than 400 IESE alumni living and working in the U.S. and Canada have strongly supported IESE's U.S. initiative. Their commitment to the school, as well as that of IESE alumni from around the globe, was evidenced at the 48th Global Alumni Reunion, held in New York City in early October. More than 1,100 alumni and guests attended the event, which was held for the first time outside Europe. This remarkably strong turnout is a clear testimony of their support.
The refurbishment of the New York Center building will effectively link the forward thinking of a global business school with the historic past of one of New York’s cultural institutions. Once the refurbishment is complete, IESE will launch a series of events and activities designed to attract and engage the local business community, in addition to offering its hallmark executive education programs.
It is my hope that you are just as excited about IESE's New York Center venture as the rest of us in the IESE community. IESE's aspiration is to create successful long-term collaborative partnerships in all sectors within the U.S. through the establishment of the school’s new home in one of the most dynamic cities in the world.
We invite you to visit us often, provide ideas and feedback and also consider generously supporting the IESE Foundation (www.iese.edu/usa/giving) in order to support this key endeavor.
Heartfelt wishes for a healthy and happy holiday season!
