Alumni Session – Balancing Professional, Family and Personal Life, November 14, 2011

IESE’s New York Center hosted the first ever women’s alumni event in the United States. It featured Prof. Chinchilla of IESE and Anne Weisberg, Director of Diversity at BlackRock. The event was titled Balancing Professional, Family and Personal Life, and was based in part on the publication Masters of our Destiny, which is coauthored by Prof. Chinchilla.

Prof. Chinchilla presented the findings from her global study, which was conducted in 23 countries. The study explored policies in the workplace that promote familyresponsible environments and measure employee satisfaction for both men and women. While many blame corporate culture for the growing conflict between work and family, Prof. Chinchilla suggested that change must not occur at an individual level before it can be adopted by the corporate world. Weisberg discussed her work, both with Deloitte and BlackRock, on increasing "choice transparency" in organizations.

Global Women’s Advisory Council

Prof. Nuria Chinchilla and Begoña de Ros led IESE’s second annual Global Women’s Advisory Council meeting on November 14, 2011. Representatives from the following organizations attended: Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, BlackRock, Bloomberg, Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, HSBC, MasterCard WorldWide, NYCEDC, Partnership for New York City and UBS. The Council will support a series of two panel and networking sessions each year and a one-day biannual conference. The next panel session is slated to be held in the spring of 2012.
