The Forum on Regulation and Competition aims to bring together consultants, business people, academics and regulators, offering a space for the debate of business strategy, competition in the marketplace and regulation.
The first forum will focus on the design and use of patents. The second session will take place on May, 24 and and the speaker will be Michael Katz, professor of the University of California at Berkeley and former Chief Economist of the Federal Communications Commission.
The Design and Use of Patents Speaker: Carl Shapiro, Haas School of Business, University of California at Berkeley
Carl Shapiro is Director of the Institute of Business and Economic Research at University of California at Berkeley. He founded the Tilden Group, and is now a Senior Consultant with Charles River Associates, an economic consulting company. He has consulted extensively for a wide range of private clients as well as for the U.S. Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission.
Professor Shapiro is the co-author, with Hal R. Varian, of "Information Rules: A Strategic Guide to the Network Economy". Published by the Harvard Business School Press, the book has received critical acclaim for its application of economic principles to the Information Economy.
