What do Janne Haaland Matlary of Norway, Marguerite Barankitse of Burundi and Carina Szpilka of Spain all have in common? They will all take part in the first-ever IESE Alumnae Conference to be held in Barcelona, July 12 and 13. This pioneering and innovating event, organized by IESE’s International Center for Work and Family, seeks to strengthen personal relationships and provide networking opportunities for women executives, business leaders and entrepreneurs around the world. Unjustified absences from work cost Spain an average of 343 euros per salaried employee in 2010. This is the finding of a new study copublished by IESE's International Research Center on Organizations (IRCO), which looks at the causes of absenteeism across a number of countries and suggests ways of addressing the high costs it imposes on business and society as a whole.
