Theme 1: The Internet of Things
09:00-10:30The Internet of Things: Blurring the Borders Between the Digital and Physical Worlds
In recent years, it has become feasible to connect a wide variety of physical objects (thermostats, lighting systems, crops, watches, cars, turbines, etc.) to the Internet, thus creating what is known as the Internet of Things (IoT). However, the IoT goes beyond remote monitoring and control of individual objects. Because these connected things are integrated and combined with other connected things, people and organizations, the creation of a vast number of new services is now possible by “programming” the physical world, thus blurring the borders between the digital and physical worlds.

10:30-11:00Coffee Break
11:00-12:30The Internet of Everything and Smart Cities
A smart city is one clear application of the Internet of Everything. How will this technology help cities be more efficient, create new business models, reduce energy consumption and emissions, and respond to urbanization growth in the years to come? The session will focus on the discussion of these and other topics.

Chairperson: Prof. Joan E. Ricart, IESE Business School

Keynote: Patrick Gaonach, Zone President Iberia, Schneider Electric

Panel:
• Jordi Alvinyà, Commercial Strategy Manager, Cellnex Telecom, S.A.
• Juan Blanco, Director Business Development EMEA South, Cisco
• Patrick Gaonach, Zone President Iberia, Schneider Electric
12:30-14:00Smart Infrastructure
The ability to transmit the information gathered by sensors in machines, equipment and infrastructure to control systems with processing capacity enables us to develop concepts such as smart infrastructure. Optimal programming of downtime for maintenance of large-scale equipment, the optimization of rail and road traffic, and more efficient electricity transmission are just a few areas where billions of euros could be saved if smart, automated management systems were in place. Making this vision a reality will call for the participation of several different industries and telecommunications will naturally play a key role. It’s not surprising that data transmission between devices is expected to be the segment showing the most growth in traffic in wired and wireless networks in the next few years. At this session, we will try to describe the scenarios of the very near future and new projects in operation.

Lecturer and chairperson: Prof. Josep Valor, IESE Business School

• Manuel Cermerón, Strategy & Development Director, Agbar
• Emma Fernández, Senior Executive Vicepresident, Indra
14:00-15:15Lunch
Theme 2: The Increasing Impact of Digital Density
15:15-16:45Scope and Timing Revisited
The impact of technological changes will be felt in all industries, but not exactly in the same way. All will be affected by the increase in digital density, but the timing and scope of change will be different for each industry. How fast do you expect the change to happen in yours? What are the barriers, if any?

Lecturer and chairperson: Prof. Sandra Sieber, IESE Business School

• Arnaldo Muñoz, General Manager Spain and Portugal, Airbnb
16:45-17:15Coffee Break
17:15-18:45Multi-Channel Networks: Digital Density Disrupts Talent & Creativity
Digital technology is having a huge impact on the media. In previous years, this Industry Meeting has covered topics such as the level of disruption in competition, distribution and organization, as well as business models in fields such as advertising. The impact of digital density is, however, much wider than expected. Disruption is also taking place upstream in the media value chain, particularly in its most scarce and valued raw material: creativity and talent. This year’s session will cover how multi-channel networks (MCNs), a major player in YouTube’s ecosystem, are hitting mainstream Hollywood. Major studios, executive producers and media investors are closely following the phenomenal growth of MCNs in terms of audience, advertising revenues and their ability to attract young people’s attention.
