IESE’s Chair of Family-Owned Business was established in 1987 to promote and support family business and business family initiatives around the world.
The first of its kind in Europe, the Chair generates high-impact research and peer-reviewed publications, and actively participates in international conferences, research summits and educational initiatives, including regular sessions in IESE’s Alumni Learning Program.

Holder of the Chair.
Marta Elvira is a professor in the Departments of Strategic Management and Managing People in Organizations. She formerly served as the Puig Chaired Professor of Global Leadership Development and associate dean of IESE’s Research and PhD program, as well as an IESE Madrid Executive Committee member.
Prof. Elvira has received grants from the European Commission Marie Curie Program and the Spanish Ministry of Innovation for her research. Her work has featured prominently in premier media outlets including Academy of Management Journal, Organization Science, Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of World Business and Nature Human Behaviour.
Outside academia, she has served as a jury member for the Princess of Asturias Award for Social Sciences for over a decade, and for the 2022 Family Business Council Gulf Awards.
