Markus Maedler is assistant professor in the Department of Accounting and Control. He earned his Ph.D. in accounting at New York's Columbia University, where he also taught accounting and finance in Columbia's prestigious Economics Department. Prior to his academic career, Prof. Maedler gained several years of international work experience in banking, consulting and public administration.

Prof. Maedler's research interests focus on the role of accounting information and control systems in three different areas: organizational design; corporate distress, turnaround and restructuring; and risk management. His teaching and consulting emphasize how companies can exploit internal finance and accounting information to contain costs and risks, manage employees, and create sustainable competitive advantage.
