How Wall Street and Main Street see ‘Other People’s Money’ (Part I)
Professors Ahmad Rahnema and Hillel Maximon have collaborated in preparing an intriguing case study based on the much-heralded movie, Other People’s Money. In short, the story is about how different parties view and pursue the same business. Imagine being in the presence of the statuesque, articulate, and regal Mr. Andrew Jorgensen (played by Gregory Peck) and the pretentious, derisive, and totally unappealing Mr. Lawrence Garfield (played by Danny DeVito) – each making his pitch and each competing to own and control the New England Wire & Cable company. But this is no ordinary movie, and it has relevance to how business is conducted in our times. Ahmad and Hillel have woven the pertinent management, finance, and accounting issues from the story-line into an exciting and riveting discussion.

13:45-14:45Techonomy: What happens to Business When Technology meets Society
We are living in an age in which information and communication technologies have moved out of their main domain - the business space - into society. They shape who we are and what we do. Professor Sandra Sieber explains how, as a consequence, there is a growing mismatch between the capabilities and desires of technology-empowered individuals and the practices and habits of organizations, institutions and governmental bodies. Today’s leaders need to understand how to manage this growing tension in light of the revolutions underway in mobile, social and analytics and in order to take advantage of the sea of opportunities that come with the advance of the techonomy

As a leader, how can you turn your people into innovators? And what does it take to drive innovation in a regular business, with limited resources and with employees who also have to deliver on the monthly targets? Thomas Wedell-Wedellsborg, coauthor (with Prof. Paddy Miller) of the forthcoming book ‘The Innovation Architect’ (Harvard Business Press) will discuss his research in this field undertaken with Capgemini in the past year, and will share some tangible insights on the role of the leader in building an innovative culture.
