Once they successfully complete the MRM program and are admitted to the PhD degree, students move into the dissertation stage in the specialized field of their choice. Students will be guided closely by their advisors, who will orientate them throughout the process until the time comes to defend their thesis.
During the first year of the PhD Program, students will present their thesis proposal; once the proposal is approved, they can register for the second year. The time limit for completion of the doctorate is 3 years from initial enrollment to defense of the dissertation.
Although they are expected to be physically present for a certain amount of the academic year, students are encouraged to visit related universities or business schools worldwide to lend depth to their research projects.
IESE faculty members design several seminars open to both MRM and PhD students. PhD students are strongly advised to enroll in the elective related to their research topics. The following electives are scheduled for the upcoming academic year:
Conferences and Seminars
Students are encouraged and given funding to present their research papers at international conferences such as the Academy of Management Annual Meeting or the Strategic Management Society Annual International Conference, while also being recommended to follow seminars or workshops specifically designed for their research topics.
International Doctor Distinction
Students who work on a doctoral thesis at an institution of higher education or recognized research center in any of the EU Member States other than Spain can earn the distinction of “International Doctor.” The period of time abroad must be at least four months and be supported by the Dissertation Advisor and authorized by the Executive Committee.
