Our research is defined by rigor and relevance. The research conducted at IESE is thorough and has a clear and practical vision that reflects the challenges which business leaders face each day. IESE faculty publishes research in top international journals. All research is conducted by our academic departments, research centers and chairs. The school's new center in New York City aims to be a reference point in the field of global business research. Two research projects have already been set in motion. Prof. Paddy Miller is coordinating "Creative Cultures: Making Innovation Work". The purpose of this research project is to understand the current explosion of interest in innovation, with a particular focus on how organizations that decide to pursue innovation can best instill a culture of creativity and innovation, as this often determines the success of an innovation initiative. The second area is coordinated by IESE Professor Josep Valor who is managing several research projects conducted by IESE Faculty in New York. Among the first is by Professors Julian Villanueva and Jorge Gonzalez and titled “The Shubert Organization: The Show Must Go On.” As the costs of Broadway productions soar and the US economy falters, The Shubert Organization must confront the challenges of renting its seventeen Broadway theaters, producing shows, and ticket sales. As theater owners, The Shubert must decide how to address the closing of several shows at the same time that it must choose which new shows will attract audiences. The purpose of this case study is to evaluate how the largest theater owner in the United States operates in a time of change. During interviews with the CEO and Co-Chief-Executive Officers at The Shubert Organization, as well as other industry insiders, we studied how Broadway's most influential player makes the decisions that turn into profit despite obstacles. In “Telecharge: the Future of Ticket Sales”, Professors Valor and Sieber are studying how technology and new media have revolutionized the way that theatre tickets are sold in the US. Professors Valor and Sieber recently completed a case study titled “Sports Illustrated (SI): The Online “Playing Field”, about the transition of Sports Illustrated from print to digital media.Research at IESE: Ideas with Impact.
