IESE Business School

IESE’s PhD program is designed to give our students the most complete training to excel in the academic profession. Our objective is to give a rigorous but engaging education experience to address the most demanding management questions of today. We expect our students to join leading academic institutions and become internationally recognized experts in their field.

Our PhD program is built around each of our students. Students work closely with professors to learn how to design, execute, and communicate research. We are proud to have one of the best management faculties in Europe who are looking forward to working with committed students. Through our faculty, students also have access to IESE’s well-known teaching capabilities.

The program is taught in English and is divided into two parts. The first two years are mostly devoted to learning the skills needed for doing top quality research.  The courses focus on knowing the disciplines that underlie their future research and on developing the research skills. These two years are intensive with students going through a steep learning curve. At the end of this period, students have a comprehensive exam to get their Master of Science's degree. The second part of the program varies in length with two years being the targeted length. During this second part, students focus their full attention to their research interest. Working closely with their advisors, students execute a full research project that culminates in the PhD dissertation.

With more than eighty faculty members, the research interests within our faculty are very diverse. The “faculty welcome” link introduces this diversity through the members of the PhD committee. IESE’s is internationally reputed for our teaching including the different MBA as well as executive education programs with a vast alumni network. The school also has excellent facilities to support research and teaching. All these resources are available to support our PhD program.
