The Case Study Method as a teaching tool

The objective of this module is to familiarize participants with the case study method as a pedagogical tool, highlighting its advantages, difficulties and appropriateness for the development of business management courses. This module concentrates on leading case discussions, in the same way as would be studied in a conventional business management program. It also focuses on various methodological approaches, performance and the importance of continuous learning.

Case writing

The case writing module aims at helping participants learn how to write high quality teaching cases. The module reviews the case writing process by exploring the key success factors at each step of this process. Writing a case is a highly personal process. Different case writers may have different writing styles and may use different approaches. Moreover, case writing processes vary, depending upon the area of business management being focused upon. Thus, the case writing is explored in the context of various fields.

Course design

This module aims at providing a basic framework for course design in any field or discipline, of any given duration, and for any target audience. While no universal method for course design exists, it is addressed in a systematic fashion, following a hands-on approach where theory and practice are intertwined, providing tools, tips and techniques to make the task of designing a meaningful course more efficient and enjoyable.

Global leadership and values

This module reviews the basic components of leadership. Using the case method approach, the main challenges of leadership are addressed in different contexts and levels of the organization. These challenges include generating commitment, managing conflicts and dealing with diverse cultures.

Applied Research Workshop (optional)

The aim of this module is to improve participants’ research skills through the development and writing of a formal research proposal. The seminar focuses upon on-going research or a topic that the participant feels he or she will be focusing on in the near future. At the end of the module, participants create a high quality and well-thought out research proposal on a topic of their own choice and interest.
