Julián Cárdenas Herrera
Julián is post-doctoral researcher at IESE Business School and lecturer professor at University of Barcelona. He has a PhD in Sociology from the University of Barcelona. He is member of Politics and Interlocking Directorates Research Group and Power and Privilege Research Group. Julián teaches Social Research Methods, Sociology of Organizations and Sociology of Consumption in the Sociology, Business Sciences and Marketing degrees. His areas of interest are economic elites, social networks, social capital and social entrepreneurship
Kate Ganly
Kate Ganly is a research assistant with the IESE Platform for Strategy and Sustainability and is currently working on a project to understand global strategies for social impact with a focus on organizations tackling poverty and inequality in India. The research takes a cross-disciplinary approach, using perspectives and methodology from management, institutional studies, economic sociology and anthropology. Kate is also a candidate for the MSc in Anthropology and Development at the London School of Economics and holds a BA in Anthropology and English Literature from the University of Sydney, Australia. Her MSc dissertation is an exploration of the role of social capital, its complexity and its limitations, for microfinance initiatives. Kate has a background in marketing and publicity for the publishing industry and her interest in organizations addressing issues of social exclusion and deep poverty is inspired by travels throughout India and encounters with Indian social entrepreneurs.
Lisa Hehenberger
Lisa is a fourth-year PhD student at IESE Business School and is engaged in venture philanthropy as a topic of her doctoral dissertation. Venture philanthropy attempts to reshape the way philanthropy is done by using performance measurement, strategic advice, long term commitment and other practices and methodologies from the venture capital sector and from business in the social sector. Lisa's interest in venture philanthropy has sprung from a combination of her background in finance (M.Sc in Economics and Business Administration from Stockholm School of Economics with major in finance, and five years work experience at UBS Corporate Finance in London and Madrid, and at GB Investment Banking in Barcelona) together with her personal interest in social and environmental issues. Lisa is a strategy scholar, and has presented several papers at conferences such as the Academy of Management and EURAM. Currently, Lisa is working within the field of Organization Theory with a particular focus on institutional theory.
Lorenzo Massa
Since 2006, Lorenzo is a PhD student at IESE Business School. In 2002 he earned a Bachelor degree in Engineering-mechanical from Dublin Intitute of Technology and in 2003 a M.sc. degree in Engineering-mechanical from the University of Genoa (both first class honour). Prior to starting his PhD, he worked at SMS Demag, in the iron and steel making sector, and in Switzerland as project manager for a spin-off of the Selesta Group, focusing on technologies for intelligent buildings. He has also spent a year as a researcher at the faculty of engineering of the University of Genoa where he was involved in a project for the amendment of the WEEE directive of the EU by the Italian government. He is currently focusing on sustainable city planning as complex system(s) where the need for economic and social development is at the interface with the preoccupation for the environment. Other areas that have his interest are ethics and the health care sector, on which he has recently started collaborating with Sobramfa in Brazil and STFM in the United States.
Colette van der Minne
Colette is a research assistant with the IESE Platform for Strategy and Sustainability at IESE Business School. She holds a M.A. degree in International Relations with a focus on international law and human rights from the University of Utrecht in The Netherlands. Colette’s interest in sustainable development has sprung from her experiences with the United Nations in South Africa, Amnesty International, where she has worked as a (voluntary) country specialist for Sierra Leone and Cote d’Ivoire, and working for a local NGO in Accra, Ghana. The main focus of her research is to examine the discourse on sustainability in the media and different industries and to identify different patterns of sense-making across stakeholders.
Tomislav Rimac
Since 2005, Tomislav is a PhD student in organizational theory and strategy at IESE Business School. In his research he is focusing on impacts of social movements on organizational strategies and structures. His particular area of interest are cross-sector business groups in the emerging economies, an organizational form that is merging for-profit and not-for-profit activities in order to deal with social problems. In 2004 Tomislav helped to launch and manage All Through the House, a social purpose enterprise initiative of the St. Christopher House in Toronto, Canada. He was one of the founders of Rotman Nexus, an MBA student run consulting agency at the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto specializing in not-for-profit and social enterprise consulting. Before that, Tomislav worked as a Business Manager for TD Bank Financial Group, and as a consultant in the technology sector. Tomislav graduated with distinction from the Joseph L. Rotman School of Management’s M.B.A. program in 2004 and holds a degree in electrical engineering from the University of Zagreb, Croatia.
Masao Takahashi
Masao is an Associate Research Fellow with the IESE Platform for Strategy and Sustainability at IESE Business School. His research interests lie in the area of cross-sector collaboration of social business, integration of corporate strategy and social development, and Corporate social responsibility in Multi National Corporation(MNC). His focus on cross-sectoral collaboration in social business evolved from participating in voluntary educational support in Mexcio, working for Fairtrade Labelling Organizations (FLO) International in Germany (summer internship) and conducting CSR consulting projects for MNCs in Asia and Europe. He is currently a Chief management consultant at Nomura Research Institute ltd., one of the leading Japanese consulting firm. His current professional challenges are corporate strategy development of multi-national corporation with social development and integration of MNC's business model in emerging market.Masao graduated from IESE Business school, University of Navarra M.B.A. program in 2008 and holds a Master of engineering in Naval engineering from Yokohama National University, Japan.
Funda Sezgi
Funda is currently a PhD student in the strategy department at IESE Business School and a member of the IESE Platform for Strategy and Sustainability research team. She holds a Bachelor degree in business administration obtained from Bogazici University, Turkey and an interdisciplinary M.A. degree in European Affairs with a focus on European Business and Law from Lund University, Sweden. Her master thesis deals with the impact of regulations on the innovative performances of E.U. member states. She is interested in researchingconsumer participation in health care systems. In this respect, she would like toexplore how definition of health has changed from preventing illnesses in the previouscivilizations to curing them in our society, and how encouraging users of healthcare systemsto be more responsible for their own health can contribute to the systems.
