Dr. José Luis Moraga-González is professor of Industrial Organization at the Department of Economics and Econometrics of the University of Groningen since 2005. He is also director of the Research Institute Economics, Econometrics and Finance, University of Groningen, and fellow of Tinbergen Institute and CESifo. He obtained a Ph. D. in Economics from University Carlos III Madrid in 1997. Then he worked as a post-doc at the Institute of Economics, Copenhagen. In 1998, Dr. Moraga-González joined Erasmus University Rotterdam, where he stayed until 2005.
The focus of his research is on the functioning of oligopolistic markets in the presence of information problems. In particular, he studies models of consumer search and firm advertising. In addition, Dr. Moraga-González regularly contributes to the literature on R&D networks and quality investments. He has published in top-journals such as the Review of Economics Studies, the Rand Journal of Economics and the European Economic Review, among others. In recent days, he works on intermediation in two-sided markets, on price dispersion in gasoline retail markets, on estimation of search costs in consumer and labor markets, and on the economics of gas markets.
