The KAIROS Network
KAIROS is an interdisciplinary network of European researchers
whose primary focus is to study the interaction of work, family
and personal life, both at the individual level (work-personal life
integration), organizational, and socio-political level (family-friendly
policies and culture). It is run by the International Center of
Work and Family, IESE Business School, Spain. ICWF
The name KAIROS was chosen for its symbolic meaning and link with
the work-personal life integration. CHRONOS refers to the measurable,
objective, quantitative time, whereas KAIROS refers to the more
"subjective" experience of time: the "adequate"
timing, or a qualitative, enjoyable time experience. This refers
to our mission, that is to generate and share knowledge that can
be used to create a better, more integrated use of time, both at
work, in the family, and in life in general.
The network is designed to bring together and support academics
and researchers interested in work and family research. The multi-discipline
nature of this topic, and diverse national perspectives have led
to a fragmentation of the work-family research. This network should
serve as a platform for cross-discipline and cross-national information
exchange about work and family research and inspire future research
in that field. Building up a European research community by providing
information on events, new publications and projects, research contacts,
etc. is one of its main aims. The success of this network will also
depend largely on the contributions of its community. Therefore
we invite all members and interested people to send us reports,
papers, information of upcoming conferences, call for papers, etc.
