New Chair on Energy and Social Development in Partnership with Fuel Freedom
IESE and the Fuel Freedom Foundation have partnered to deliver the emPOWERing Africa project. Announced at the CGI’s annual meeting in New York, this new education program seeks to address the issue of energy poverty across Africa and to encourage the adoption of alternatives to oil and gasoline.
The project will work on identifying gaps in policy and management approaches to increasing access to basic energy needs (cooking, electricity, transportation) while engaging stakeholders and experts to provide effective solutions.
Starting in Strathmore University in Kenya, the program will focus on local capacity building, collecting data for case studies and energy education that will later be delivered to business leaders, policy makers and influencers at IESE’s campus in Barcelona.
The program is an initiative of IESE’s new Chair in Energy and Social Development, directed by IESE Prof. Ahmad Rahnema, deputy associate dean for Faculty and Director of the school’s Financial Management Department.
